Dear participants,

Thank you very much for your registration. It helps us make an educated guess about what to expect for this Saturday. From 6 p.m. to midnight we hope to spend a great culinary evening with you!

At last we would like to give you some tips for the event. That way you can relax and focus on the program and the food.

  • You can choose which district and culinary partner to visit first. It might be best to consult the program on our website in advance to plan ahead. Here‘s the link for the program (PDF Format)
  • The first culinary station will provide you with a program brochure (with an English translation) and a map that you can take along on your journey
  • The participating establishments will have red balloons at their doorsteps
  • Entrance is free, only the food has to be paid for (1-3 Euros)
  • There will also be a little lottery. If lucky, you can win cards for our eat-the-world culinary tours or coupons for photo products by OnlineFotoservice powered by CEWE. The competition card can be picked up at any station. There are 5 empty fields on it; every restaurant you eat at gives you a stamp. As soon as all boxes are filled, you can hand in the card at any culinary partner, thereby participating in the lottery.
  • Be aware: It is very well possible that there might be a lot of people at one partner at the same time. In that case you will have to wait for a little bit. If it gets too much, we recommend to visit the next establishment and come back at a later time. (Especially the previously scheduled program items might be overflown at certain times.)
  • To stay up to date, you can follow our activities on Facebook and Twitter (# lndk14). We will be in every district, reporting live what is happening. You are also welcome to report and upload your own pictures! We look forward to every statement!
  • Naturally the culinary partners can only provide for as many people as there is food. All establishments are, however, trying to meet everybody’s wishes.
  • Of course you can invite friends, family members and other acquaintances that have not registered before. The more the merrier!
  • By the way: We would like to kindly ask you to give us some points of feedback after the event. A short survey will be available from Saturday night onwards.

We hope to spend an exciting and delicious evening with you!

Kind regards from the eat-the-world Team

A punch bowl party with a cookie quiz and melon ice cream with ham: Second annual Long Night of Cuisine on May 24 in Berlin

After a massive success last year, eat-the-world is sending out a new invitation to this year’s Long Night of Cuisine in Berlin. A selection of around 30 cafes, restaurants and bars are offering delica-cies and entertainment in the neighborhoods of Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg and Schöneberg.

Berlin, April 2014 Just like the Long Night of Museums, people who are interested in our culinary partners and us can use this evening to get to know us better, is how Elke Freimuth, founder of eat-the-world, explains the concept. It will be an evening full of trivia, treats and entertainment on Saturday, May 24th from 6 PM to midnight in about 30 cafes, restaurants and bars. This year, the second Long Night of Cuisine is taking place in the four Berlin neighborhoods of Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg and Schöneberg. In each neighborhood, six to eight selected culinary partners are involved, and they include a Latin-American bistro, an Italian ice cream shop, a cooking school and a classic German fine bakery. They will give a perspective into the food, the way of life and the diversity of each neighborhood as each quarter has its own atmosphere. In multicultural, alternative Kreuzberg youll find alternative shops, restaurants and cafes. Lots of students, clubs and bars, as well as the buildings of the former East and even older historical buildings make Friedrichshain colorful and turbulent. Prenzlauer Berg used to be home to lots of students and Berlins scene, but nowadays its more populated by families and the well-off. Bars, theaters and galleries make the quarter a highlight for tourists. Artists, intellectuals and masterminds come together in Schöneberg. The quarter is multicultural and colorful, urban and rural, influenced by cafes, artists ateliers, bars, markets and boulevards.

The program for the second Long Night of Cuisine is as diverse as these unique neighborhoods. Satisfy your sweet tooth at a marzipan workshop, an ice cream tasting with unusual flavors like melon ice cream with ham, or a wine tasting. Unleash your inner party animal at a schnitzel party with music. Options for entertainment include a reading and a Ukrainian art exhibit. Relax at a tea ceremony with a tea quiz and a tombola raffle, or take a look into how Creole food is made with a look behind the scenes.

This evening is also an opportunity for locals to get to know a neighborhood better or to see their own area with a fresh set of eyes, promises Freimuth. Who, where, when and how long to visit is all up to the visitors. eat-the-world will be posting updates on special program highlights and details on the partners in advance on the website www.lange-nacht-der-kulinarik.de and will provide a brochure of the program and city maps on the evening of the event. Just like last year, there will be a prize drawing as well.

Participation is free. The culinary partners will lay out a special program and a selected culinary offering in exchange for a small contribution. Registration is requested in advance in order to better be able to organize the event. You can either register on the website www.lange-nacht-der-kulinarik.de or on eat-the-world’s Facebook event page (http://www.facebook.com/Langenachtderkulinarik). The second Long Night of Cuisine is taking place with the cooperation of OnlineFotoservice.de powered by CEWE and the newspaper Der Kreuzberger.

Background: eat-the-world

During various stays abroad, the founder, Elke Freimuth, was always asking herself the same question: What do they eat in the area and what characterizes the way of life of the locals? When she then lived for a while in New York, USA, she noticed that the small, family-run businesses were disappearing, driven by the growth of large chains. The young entrepreneur says of her aim: “As a huge fan of European cuisine, I wanted to highlight the typical foods of different countries in relation to the daily lives of their local populations.” On her return to Germany, the idea of culinary and cultural tours away from the tourist trails took shape and in April 2008, eat-the-world went online. The “eat-the-world” concept remains unique. There are culinary guided tours or tapas tours in a number of European cities, but they are usually complete menus in three to five different restaurants. The idea of having a lot of small, representative samples is new. The company motto: Get to know the area through its food and its people. This concept helped eat-the-world’s founder, Elke Freimuth, persuade the Verband Internet Reisevertrieb (VIR), the online Internet travel portal association, and win its innovation competition, “Launch Pad 2009”. Now present in Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich, Leipzig, Dresden, Frankfurt/Main, Bremen, Hanover and Münster, eat-the-world is the leader of culinary guided tours in Germany, with other European cities under way.

A Creole evening, where bacon-flavored ice cream is served and you can take a quiz about cookies. You’re probably wondering how all of this fits together! We’ll show you on a very special evening: The Long Night of Cuisine 2014 is coming up soon. The first partners have already signed on and the plans are in progress for a program full of all kinds of extraordinary surprises. Today we want to give you a little teaser of what you can expect to see soon:

The first events for the Long Night of Cuisine

When will the Long Night of Cuisine happen?
6 pm-12 am on May 24, 2014.

Where will the Long Night of Cuisine happen?
In Berlin in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg and Schöneberg, all at the same time. Or in several parts of the city, depending how fast you can walk and how much you want to taste and experience!

The idea behind the Long Night of Cuisine:
Hand-picked, owner-operated culinary businesses, cafes, restaurants and snack bars give you the chance to get to know them and their delicious food. Plus there will be an entertaining program of events and insights into the local culture. We’re using the Long Night of Cuisine as an occasion to introduce and celebrate the food, life and diversity of these four areas of the city.

How the Long Night of Cuisine will go:
Six to ten specially chosen culinary partners are participating in each area of the city. You can choose who, where, and how long you visit – you’re in charge of planning your perfect culinary experience this evening. We’ll keep you up to date on special events in the program and give you more details about every partner, and provide you with a map for the event. Keep your eyes peeled in the next few weeks!

The culinary partners and their programs:
Our search for culinary partners for the Long Night of Cuisine is already under way. We are looking at existing partners from eat-the-world tours as well as interesting culinary businesses that can tempt your taste buds in each of the four areas of the city. Many plans are already solid, while even more are still in the works.

Here are a few things you can already look forward to: our confirmed partners include a Latin-American bistro, an Italian ice cream shop, a cooking school and a classic German fine bakery. You’ll have your choice between dozens of delights to eat or drink. While those with a sweet tooth can try a marzipan workshop or make friends at a wine tasting, the party animals can dance their cares away at a schnitzel party with a DJ. Other entertainment is planned to include a book reading and a Ukrainian art exhibit. At the end you can relax at our tea ceremony while learning about tea traditions.

Where, what and how exactly: Stay tuned!

Admission is free!
On the Long Night of Cuisine, you only have to pay a small contribution to the culinary partner for the tasting samples and drinks.

It’s time again! The date is set and now we’re hard at work planning the Long Night of Cuisine 2014. And this time, it’s not just Berliners who’ll have a chance to stroll through their city on a balmy May night, tasting the widest variety of flavors and experiencing the range of programs!

The Long Night of Cuisine 2014 will take place on May 24, 2014. As soon as the year began, we started getting ready for the second annual Long Night of Cuisine. Following the success of the first event on May 11, 2013, which came together beautifully with the cooperation of our culinary partners in Berlin, 2014’s Long Night of Cuisine will take place in several culinary-cultural cities at once.

On Saturday, May 24, 2014, from 6 P.M. to midnight, culinary businesses in many cities will open their doors wide to offer tasting samples at reduced prices and to show their business to the world. We’re using the Long Night of Cuisine as an opportunity to bring attention to owner-operated, high-quality culinary businesses, restaurants, cafes, and snack bars, and to celebrate the diversity of big cities and the smorgasbord of cuisine they have to offer. Conscious eating and the vibrant culture of eating and drinking are essential to us.

The Long Night of Cuisine 2014 once again offers our guests a variety of culinary delights, influenced by the countless facets of each city and neighborhood’s own fascinating culture. On top of that, there will be a wide-ranging program of events.

The Long Night of Cuisine will be taking place in many eat-the-world cities across Germany. The exact host cities will be revealed soon.
